Today I have received my Boyi RK03 AK-74N from comrade M76.
For those who do not know, this is a VFC clone, not Tokyo Marui. It is much closer to the real AK74 than the TM ones. It is similar to the Boyi RK02, but with a real wood handguard. ![]() The AEG comes with a very nice sling. It is proper canvas with strong clips. Like all "All China Made" guns, it comes with a hicap mag, a pretty decent battery (8.4V 1100mah NiMH), a basic charger, a packet of Dboy BBs and a cleaning rod. I have not fount a sight adjustment tool. The mag is not too bad, but I will get midcaps for it. The crap with the KALASH range is they do not take any TM mags. They only take Dboy and MAG mags that I know of. MAG mags are very good value for money. The gun is very solid. No wobble in the stock whatsoever. But when the stock is extended it has about 1/2 mm play left to right which does not bother me at all, but its easily fixable. Everything is nicely aligned. The rear sight has extreme wobble, this is also easily fixable. The handguards are solid, no wobble... nothing. The flash hider is also rock solid, no play. The innerbarrel of the gun is 502mm long, which should give some very good accuracy. I will replace the hopup as the accuracy at the moment is terrible. I also have not chrono'd it. But it seems to be firing about 390FPS... maybe above 400FPS. Will have to chrono it to make sure of that. ![]() (compared to my AK-47S) The gun has both steel and pot metal exterior parts. Steel Parts: Folding stock assembly rear sling swivel Stock release button Lower receiver Receiver Cover Selector Switch Trigger guard Mag release catch Gas Tube Cleaning Rod Some in front sight Flash Hider (I know its not the right name for it, please correct me) All pins and screws. Pot metal: Top Receiver Cover release button Bolt Trigger Side Rail mount bracket Rear Sight Hand guard release lever Some handguard metal parts Front sling lug Front receiver (please correct me if this it the wrong term) Outer Barrel Font part of gas tube Front sight The wood seems to be laminated.. but I might be wrong. The wood seems to be of much better quality than that of my AK-47S. It is also the correct colour. ![]() (AK74) ![]() (AK47) Things that need fixing: The rear sight is very loose, but I have a way to fix that. Also the bolt is a bit stiff. Also fixable. The handguard release catch is a little too loose for my liking, will fix that. I will take it apart later today and then focus on the internals. The manual says it has a reinforced gearbox with 7mm bearings. It also claims it has a metal hopup chamber. I will confirm that later... Some more pics: ![]() ![]() To be continued...

Thanks Comrade!
The manual said it has a metal hopup, but thats not true. I am not interested in one anyway My gun seemed to have some issues. The stock had slight wobble when extended (FIXED!). The rear sight did not have a leaf spring but a huge piece of bent steel that served no purpose (FIXED). The outer barrel had a slight wobble (FIXED). I have replaced the hopup rubber with a Guarder one. I cleaned the gearbox and now I am busy shimming it. Will relube it properly once that is done. Will also replace the O rings while I am at it. What I have noted is Boyi do not do a lot of effort on tightening the gearbox screws, that worries me. But since I am servicing the GB, that will not be a problem. It is just a word of caution to Boyi owners.

i think thats the older version of the RK03, the new version which is the RK03S has a tan color real looking sling and a more detailed laminated plywood handguards, also serial number engraved on the bolt carrier

Yes, this is the RK03, not the RK03S. But they are really two different models in the sense. The one is full steel and the other is not... both have their pro's and con's. I would have bought the RK03S, but it was not in stock. The RK03 is also a bit cheaper. My nephew got the new RK01, not RK01S, and it comes with proper laminated wood now aswell. I am just waiting for Boyi to make the AK-74 laminated handguard available for purchase. Well, here are the internals of the RK03 mechbox as I promised! Some additional info reagrding this dboys rk03 unit...
SOmethings in the manual metioned like the 7mm metal bushing bearing, metal hop up assembly..this are not exactly on the unit.as what id have on my own unit..just got it last week..cleaning rod came short..since its a 500mm or 5002mm barrel, sigth adjusting tool and other tools thats should be there is missng... As for the looks of this gun definitely feel inlove all over again..beacause i got to hold it for the first time..the internals are ok..stock gears came with xyt marking..(it seem a high speed stock gear to me..)the stock motor is definetely a high thou its stock...it runs around 13-14 rfs..on a stock jg spring that i installed from a jg mp5ras unit..on a stock 8.4v 1100 mah battery...the motor cage is impresive, it looks sturdy and strong(but if you try to fit a jg motor cage to your dboys gb it will not fit..there are some portions needed to be shaved in order to fit the jg motor cage..the piston body came with a the second to the last tooth shaved so i dont need to do the mod already, piston head is quite good considering if yoo have a extra bearing fron your other piston head, all you need is to transfer it to the stock dboy piston head..the stock spring was shorter compared to the other stock springs that came with the other brand.. hop assembly even thou its plastic its still do the job well..For those who wants a realistic look for this kind of ak Dboys..almost...almost got it..bravo dboys... I didnt made a mistake buying this brand...even before it got negative reviews before.. here are some pict... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
