As part of a commissioned project I had to make a Romak flash hider. It's relatively a simple task.

You'll need a muzzle nut, one aluminum tube with a diameter very slightly less than that of the muzzle nut, another aluminum tube with a slightly bigger diameter than the first, some epoxy, super glue, and something suitable to make a front end cap for the FH.

Force fit the slightly smaller tube over the muzzle nut and fix it in place with super glue. Lay down a thin layer of epoxy over the first tube and then slide the slightly bigger tube over the first so that you can crimp its muzzle nut end over the first tube.

After making sure that you have perfect alignment between the outer barrel, front sight, and the WIP FH, cut the tube, fit the end cap (I used the screw-on end of a silicon sealant tube end cap), and epoxy the front end so that it looks like the bayonet locking lip.

At this point you can also layout the vent slots in the WIP FH. As you can see in the pic, masking tape was used to mark the ends of the slot. With these guides, you can now cut out the slots with a rotary tool cutting disc and finish off with rat files.

Found out that polishing the tube with ultra fine steel wool made it look like stainless steel.

Now all that is needed is some painting!

One coat of mettalic gray primer and four coats of Ace Appliance Epoxy Paint was used to give the FH that authentic shiny black look of Russian gunware.

thanks for the compliment, kom alakdan.

next on the agenda was the front sight.

a 47 front sight was first savaged . . .

in preparation for building up with metal bits and good old epoxy steel wink.gif

then, another 47 front sight was pared down to the junction to make a bayonet lug:

one end (left side in the pic) was cut down to serve as the joiner into a cyma outer barrel and thus extend it.

after some filing, sanding, and a bit of detail work, here is the complete Romak muzzle end:

now we are ready to attach it to the forward end of the cyma outer barrel. happy.gif

up next: doing a Romak receiver. whistle.gif
