Here's something i promised da bosing i would do -- a compilation of RS reference sites. feel free to add anything not in the list -- it is by no means comprehensive.
una siempre ung mother of all RS guns and ammo sites:
conveniently divided into pages on assault rifles, pistols, smgs, civilian rifles, mgs, etc. most reliable RS site i've found so far. well-maintained too. used to have a forum which is now inactive. popenker, the owner, is rumored to be an ex-Russian soldier who has co-authored two assault rifle books and keeps up to date on military [weapons technology.
a primary AK reference site that has pages on Mikhail Kalashnikov, AK modifications and modernization, some photos, and a copy of the Dragunov SVD manual in English. comprehensive listing of separate pages on various AK models, including experimental and technology transfer models, is at http://kalashnikov.guns.ru/models
mainly meant as a marketing catalog for AK paraphernalia including scope mounts, scopes, components, bayonets, and assorted rigs, it includes excellent project pages featuring the build projects of AK enthusiasts. Krinkov projects pages has been one of my main refs for my Krink mods excellent pics. has the most believable story on how the AKS 74U came to be known as the Krinkov.
a japanese site built along the lines of Modern Firearms & Ammunition but concentrating on models popular with japanese gun enthusiasts. has pics not available in other AK sites but these are often very small.
This may surprise some but the "home of the black rifle" has an excellent AK reference forum with two big picture threads (very, very big in fact and a tremendous amount of good pics not seen in other sites so expect looong download times), an AK in action thread, and an AK faq thread.
a US-based AK parts and rifles marketing site. provides some useful historical and technical data but not as reliable as the Tantal site or World Firearms & Ammunition
primarily a weapons pics database for game developers. Has excellent photos of the AK 47, AKS 74U, AK 5, PKM, RPG 7, SKS, Baikal 1J18 and many, many other RS guns.
Cold War and Alternative History Re-enactment Group
This group sponsors and takes part in live weapon, blank-fire reenactments and Airsoft. Depending on senario, they portray either the Soviet 106th Guards Airborne Assault Troops (VDV - Vozdushno-Desantnye Vojska) from Tula, Soviet Union or the Soviet 35th Air Assault Brigade (DShB - Desantoshturmovaya Brigada or assault landing brigade literally translated) from Cottbus, East Germany
They have a page on the three major variants of the AK from 1947-1991. Another page details kit requirements for re-enactment participants. has an animation of AK action and a slow motion video of the same. could not migrate the anim here because of it is a large file.
an RPG site that focuses on individual skills, concepts, & soldiers & units. technical specs pages on light arms: accessories: edged weapons:, weapons systems & platforms: munitions:, vehicles, vessels: aircraft: and equipment and uniform. of special interest to AK adiks are the pages on AKS 74 U, AK 5, A-91, VSK 94, and the Dragunov SVD.
Warfare.ru – Russian military analysis
this one is useful if you are into Russian weaponry, military units, and warfare doctrine and technology.
provides a roster of eastern-bloc themed airsoft teams. includes the cougars of course. have encountered filAK and ACMgames members here. good forum though sometimes discussions degrade into the correct color of mags and the proper stitching and wearing of kits and rigs.
my other prime reference site for Krink builds and mods. excellent airsoft AK reference. sometimes gets lost when MAAPR does maintenance, migration or upgrading.
nadiskubre ko ngayon lang, komrads, na may mga MIA na sites. if you really want or need to get to the site use Wayback Machine. it is an internet archiving facility that takes periodic snapshots of the web.
ganda nung gunsnet, komrad. dagdag ko lang etong pic.
dun ko nadiskubre na meron palang AK na talagang saliwa ang vertical alignment
Cant means a part of the rifle is offset from the vertical centerline. It is really common on early model Romanian rifles and less common on newer models.found by looking in two places on the rifle. The first place is the Front Sight Block(far left in picture) and the second is the rifle's Gas Block/Tube(far right in picture). Look at the picture below if you need help finding there location.
The second place Cant is common is on the gas tube. The picture to the left depicts looking at the rifle head on if the Front Sight was transparent. Notice how the gas block (the dark grey looking thing) is canted compared to the other one. Cant on a gas block can be serious, if the Cant is just a little then its not to much of a problem, but if it is canted severely it can cause problems with the rifles gas piston leading to jams and malfunctions.
